Day 2: Orientation

Orientation was a go with the flow day. We started of as a group but got split up to do some tasks after learning some interesting facts about Staten Island and Project Hospitality, Inc.

James, Jess, Danielle, and Dr. Beisaw started off going to the Warehouse to short clothes that were donated. That group got split even farther. Father Jack surprised Dr. Beisaw by dropping her off to visit family members. She had a wonderful time! James, Jess, and Danielle were taken to see the Atlantic Ocean and tour the island a bit. After a small tour, Jess and Danielle helped Shea in the Warehouse to short the clothes. James and Father Jack helped an older lady out.

Paul, Caitlyn, and Chelsea helped Demmis pass out fliers to inform the community of an important meeting/dinner on budget cuts that will effect the community. Chelsea and Caitlyn were on one side of the street, while Paul and Demmis were on the other side. It was a great time and many laughs and learning experiences.

Molly, Rachel, Amanda, and Kyra went to the soup kitchen to help out however was needed. Rachel and Amanda quickly made friends with James (a worker there) to prepare for tomorrow's meal. Molly and Kyra helped paint a room up stairs. They got to talk to several different people.

Lunch was prepared by James (the worker) at the soup kitchen, and it was delicious! We hung out for a bit and then got to pick out the food we were going to make for tonight's dinner and tomorrow's breakfast. What an interesting experience.

With all our tasks completed for the day, we all piled in the van. We went to the beach to play in the sand and have some fun. It was a wonderful time, the sun was out today!

We had a group meeting and then we all pitched in to cook dinner or set up for dinner. The rest of the night was a choice of relaxing (Paul, Caitlyn, and Chelsea), or hanging out in the city (Amanda, Kyra, Dr. Beisaw, James, Rachel, Molly, Danielle, and Jess). What a wonderful day full of learning and fun!
